The Term: Mad can have several connotations. One might say that in the physical manifestation of mad or anger one might express the emotional state of mad by shaking their hands. For example, a basketball player might express the emotional state of being mad because they missed a shot or lost a game. While Dr. Thomas Szasz would state that mad or angry, along with other emotional states, such as happiness are apart of the human experience and at some point in time we all experience a range of emotions over the span of our lives. To seek to medicate emotional states is to seek to medicate the human experience. Not even God promises every day will be without a storm or its challenges. Indeed, Jesus suffered much on the cross.
The simple reality is that in today’s terms: behavioral health, we get closer to the matter of the non medical issues of lying and the ensuing underlying the claims of diagnosis of mental health or behavioral health: control. The simply matter is that often unwanted behavior along with other behaviors that others seek to control such as homosexuality, which may flux in and out of cultural or societal acceptance and thus what is wanted and unwanted behavior as evidence in the changing definitions and ‘conditions’ that have been label behavior health or mental illness over time. Indeed, in Ancient Rome homosexuality was widely practice but in recent modern history was medicated as an illness. Thus we can see that what one has coined as behavior health is merely behaviors that a society or cultural or a mere small group of people may deem as unwanted. Szasz states this is an incorrect view.
The simple reality is that the medical industry did not see unwanted behavior as an illness unable to produce any scientific evidence or data, which has not changed to this day, which is why behavioral health diagnosis or subjective diagnosis based on subjective votes by people who are ‘licensed’ by the state as medical professionals, albeit practicing a baseless and subjective branch of medicine. The medical community at the beginning of its establishment sent those pretending to be ill communicating symptoms without evidence of disease to the criminal system as frauds and fakes believing the criminal system would likely find a crime in these individuals, so there has historically been an overlap in these professions since the advent of psychiatry as we know it today. It was not long before some within the medical community began to commit fraud with these patients via modes of diagnosis, which is scientifically baseless and other methods to the great demise of many within the medical and scientific community.
The reality is that if a society or culture can not find justice for unwanted behavior than neither should these behaviors be medicalize. Indeed, at one point in time we all commit acts that are acceptable by everyone. In fact, many successful people will have detractors as did Donald Trump. His mental health was questioned as well. The reality is everyone is not always going to like what you do and this can not be medicalized. And if the matter is a legal one than let it be so. If the matter is a traditional religious one than let it be so. And so forth. The simple matter is the medical industry is a for profit not always for the patient industry and all the claims it makes are not always based on fact and this must be regulated accordingly.
The FDA and other regulatory bodies staffed with self-serving professionals within the industry is not sufficient particularly since it ceased to be funded by tax payers and is largely funded by the industry it seeks to regulate and staffed by individuals from the industry. There is a clear conflict of intrest and a culture of incentives and kick backs. Every industry wants to make a profit. But, we do not allow industry to force their products on their consumers. Consumers have a choice as they should. With rising mortality and morbidity rates, it is clear to see that the medical industry can not claim that it is because it is good for one's health. No, it is good for profit and is causing increasing harm to patients and the public at large. Consequently, lingering COVID 19 mandates and policies around the world have received much push-back.
The question is are they legal within the culture or society. And as a person of faith, one might ask if it is Godly behavior. It is also important to note that historically the human experience such as the loss of a love one, jealous impulses or the missing of a shot at a basketball game leading to a range of emotions - were handled among religious leaders and / or family. But what the medical community rarely discusses are its beliefs and practices that are rooted in non-traditional pagan religious beliefs. In this, as they say lies the rub, as this country (America) was founded on religious freedom. Thus, at the end of the day one has the right to practice their own religious beliefs without having another religion imposed upon them, i.e. coercive medicine and forced medication / drugging, which as we have seen in the case of opioids can lead to increased morbidity and mortality rates, which have spiraled out of control in recent history. To which the medical community seems simply unconcerned about despite the promotion of the profession as a life saving and health creating industry.
