Mark Twain famously said, "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." Yet, even though we make a conscious effort to live in the light, there are times when we cannot escape the destructive power of lies.
Lies cause family and friends to experience disconnection and wreak havoc on our relationships. Yet, lying, even about simple things, has become the norm for many. It has been found that over sixty percent of people lie, at least once, during a ten minute conversation.
Why is lying so tempting?
Marriages and friendships alike fall victim to lies. Not surprisingly, it has been found that almost sixty percent of broken marriages were affected by lies. Some believe that little, white lies are innocuous, but oftentimes these lead to larger falsehoods. We must remember, "He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it easier to do it a second time."
The shadow cast by lies obscures the truth and is the cause of so much personal pain. But, we must not despair; lies are dismantled with the light of truth. When we strive to live the truth, speak the truth and offer the truth to those we care for, healing is available.
Being lied to may have broken you down in the past, but it will not unsettle your future. We hold the power to turn the script around. The truth will set you free!
