1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
For you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Many Christians can tell you that they are aware that their body is a temple of God. Glory to God that he chooses to make his people a temple rather than the Parthenon or some other building pagan or not. The question is where are you in your faith? Are you ready to make your body a temple for God? The other question is a pre-question? Do you know that God will not simply dwell in you. As 1 Corinthians 6:20 states we are to glorify him with our body. But, many Christians may be sinning against their body in their actions and consumption. God will not dwell in a temple that does not glorify him. Do you know how to make your body a temple to the glory of God?
When one goes for medical treatment, they do not often question: will this impact my body in a way in which God will not dwell in it. However, knowing that science and medicine is based on pagan beliefs and practices, the Christian should easily ask this question. 100,000s of people were prescribed and took opioids leading to the current opioid epidemic and the ensuing lawsuit across this country many leveraged by states ravaged by addiction from a drug that was marketed as a low-addictive painkiller. According to the CDC nearly 841,000 people died of a drug overdose in 2019 alone with opioids accounting for over 70% of the deaths.
There are several means and methods in which medical treatment can make one’s body less than a temple to the glory of God, such as prescription addiction to harmful drugs. The question is how do we maintain good health and a temple that gives glory to God? Indeed, this is an important question for the Christian.
