During the industrial revolution many industries and products from those industries were created one of which was scientific based farming. While the industrial revolution allowed us to mass produce products via industrialized and factory based processes, it also brought with it a lot of waste such as fast or disposable fashion and harmful chemicals that plague everything from our medicine cabinet to our dinner table.

While products for farming produced by scientists promised to deliver farmers greater amounts of yield and an easier ways to control pests, some of these promises simply were not true or came at a heavy cost to both farmer and consumer. The following are several drawbacks to the currently widely practice science of farming:

  • Made the cost of farming to expensive and unsustainable for small and local farmers

  • Forcing small and local farmers out of business and giving rise to the industrial farming complex, which looks more like a factory than a farm and is stated to be very cruel to animals

  • Pesticides and other harmful chemicals are in the food supply causing health concerns and contributing to obesity

  • Pollutes our soil and waterways. Something we must seriously consider in the wake of the Cavendish banana extension. The Cavendish banana replaced the Gros Michel banana, which became extinct.

  • Places more emphasis on the manufacturing of food rather than growing of food

  • Is more of a scientific process while organic farming focuses more on nature, natural food growing and biology such as crop rotation and natural pollination / breeding.

  • Scientific farming and gardening are more profit driven and costly

  • Scientific farming is highly unsustainable ignoring such organic fertilizers as green manures. Such organic practices typically make use of resources already on the farm or other organic resources, which makes it both sustainable with regard to natural resources as well as the cost of farming

  • Scientific farming focuses on removing the seed from the plant (fruit, vegetable, herb, etc.) to prevent others from growing their own foods from this food source and leads to the extinction of plants like the Gros Michel and possibly the Cavendish banana.

We use the Mole Max in our garden as a sonic and organic pesticide (get it above).
