CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Nonprofit organizations in the Charlottesville area teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia to help children to learn more about climate change. "Climate change isn't something that is star in curriculum nowadays. So, we wanted to be able to teach kids about climate justice and climate change," said Erica Gaines, operation and engagement manager at C3. Volunteers helped show that it is a community effort to help take care of the Earth. "I find climate change not interesting, but it scares me a bit and I would like to help change that and I think educating the next generation is really powerful," said Izzy, a volunteer. Currently children are creating a mural of the climate stripe showing how warm and how cold Central Virginia has been in past years. The children were excited to create this mural to help make a difference. "I want to help make the world a better place because right now at this time it is not doing so well," said Alerah, a volunteer. "Climate change is poisoning our atmosphere and we need to stop using stuff that makes climate change happen," said Harmony. a volunteer. Below are the nonprofit organizations helping out the community:
