A House panel investigating the COVID-19 pandemic has subpoenaed a former senior adviser to ex-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci for emails he exchanged on a private account about the origins of the SARS-CoV-2 — in an apparent violation of federal record-keeping laws.

The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic announced the subpoena of Dr. David Morens in a Tuesday letter, demanding that he hand over records potentially relating to COVID origins, federal grants to Chinese research labs and communications with high-ranking public officials by April 30.

Those would include any potential exchanges with Fauci and NIH Director Francis Collins — who tried to squash efforts early in the pandemic to investigate whether the coronavirus originated in a lab leak in Wuhan, China.

The subpoena also demands any communications Morens had with Fauci or Collins, as well as with scientists who authored a discredited study on the natural origins of the virus and with EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak.

EcoHealth has been tied to what some scientific experts and lawmakers have described as risky gain-of-function research projects on coronaviruses in China — one of which was never funded, and the other of which was suspended during the pandemic but later reinstated.

The Manhattan-based public health nonprofit received more than half a million in taxpayers’ money through an NIH grant to conduct research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology for the second proposal, which remains ongoing but is no longer being done in China.

Morens was heavily involved in attempting to reinstate the funding for the project, according to emails released by EcoHealth last week in response to a request for comment from The Post, after a whistleblower initially revealed their existence to the House COVID committee.

“In the emails released by EcoHealth Alliance, Dr. Morens recklessly provided Dr. Daszak with access to non-public information and offered insight into internal conversations at NIAID,” the House COVID committee noted in a press release.

“Dr. Morens wrote in an email to Dr. Daszak, ‘Tony is now fully aware I think and is I am told involved in some sort of damage control,’” the press release states.

“In another email, Dr. Daszak agrees to contact Dr. Morens via his personal Gmail account instead of his government email account to communicate about information related to COVID-19 and NIAID grants stating, ‘David – We’ll communicate with you via gmail from now on’ and then concerningly adds ‘we have 15,000 samples in freezers in Wuhan.’”
