Many things that are not specifically prohibited under Christian liberty nevertheless have dire physical, mental and emotional consequences. It is so easy for various actions to lead to addictions. Christians must practice self-control in all things.

In 1 Corinthians 6:14 Paul drives his point home by reminding his readers that we are to live as people who serve the resurrected Jesus Christ. Our lives should consistently reflect this reality. Rather than be preoccupied with the desires of our material existence, our focus should be on a higher calling: the pursuits of holiness.

Next, Paul pointedly queries his readers. Do they not realize that their bodies are the members of Christ’s holy body, His church? It is unthinkable that holy members of Christ’s body would be defiled with a prostitute [or prostitution]! Rather than be so united with corruption, believers are to be joined spiritually to the Lord Himself.

Paul now calls his reader’s attention to the reality of their status individually as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Not only are they members of Christ’s body corporately, but the Spirit indwells them each as individuals, making them into holy temples to the Lord.

The corollary to this truth is that, because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we no longer belong to ourselves. Christ Himself paid the price for our redemption from sin. We are therefore owned by Him entirely.

do you live a Godly life? How could this impact your health? What are your religious beliefs?
