Family history is often used in disease monerging. It is used to cover the tracks of disease mongering and to convince the patient that if a family member had the illness, you will also. Despite the fact that there is an attempt to used diet, location and other factors to solidify these claims, although family members have difference experience, live in different locations and sometime have different diets.
What can patients do
Be careful to note the differences and similarities between family members
Research the actual disease and its root to check for disease mongering independent of the patient
Ask for scientific evidence
Be leery of explications not based or rooted in fact with shallow sources of evidence
Be careful of unanswered questions
Be careful to note causes of the illness independent of your family history
Consider your religion
What is family health history?
Family health history is a record of the diseases and health conditions in your family. You and your family members share genes. You may also have behaviors in common, such as exercise habits and what you like to eat. You may live in the same area and come into contact with similar things in the environment. Family history includes all of these factors, any of which can affect your health.
How can such practices impact one's health? Life? How?
