\The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has ruled that a Biden-era decision denying three federal employees’ requests for religious exemptions to the now-overturned COVID-19 vaccine mandate was unlawful.
EEOC found that agency officials in 2021 violated Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act when they turned down the employees’ reasonable accommodation requests that sought an exemption to the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for the federal workforce. Though the governmentwide mandate was tossed out in 2023, an appellate decision that EEOC issued Friday ordered a reversal of the exemption denials, compensation for the three employees, and a new investigation into the incident.
