The combination of ginger, lemon, echinacea and Manuka honey make this recipe a powerfully soothing tonic for the common cold. Ginger contains gingerol, a compound that reduces inflammation and breaks up congestion, while the compounds in echinacea (or corn flower) have been shown to ease symptoms such as headaches, cough, lethargy and muscle aches.

Lemon, of course, is a great source of vitamin C, containing 51 percent of the recommended daily value. Manuka honey is believed to have increased germ-fighting qualities, but more than that, it's a sweet addition to this homemade natural remedy.

INGREDIENTS

Manuka honey (to taste)

1 cup fresh lemon juiced or squeezed

2 (rinsed and thinly sliced)

1 - 2 (Flowers) of Echinacea Petals

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Peel ginger fingers and slice thinly. Add to a tea ball and steep in about a cup of water.

Step 2

Juice or squeeze lemons.

Step 3

Remove petals from Echinacea flower. Rinse the petals in a proper sized colander. Step in a tea ball (use about 1 Cup of water to steep petals).

Step 4

Add to honey, lemon and ginger mixture while tea from Echinacea and the ginger fingers are still hot, add the Manuka honey and allow to dissolve.

Step 5

Once dissolved at heated lemon juice to the mixture to create a calming drink to settle symptoms of the common cold.
