“Him questioning our motives and intent and sincerity in terms of money … this fight happens to be a great opportunity to do both,” Bill Haney said. “To be tied in with an event that the fans and [Saudi Arabia boxing financier] Turki Alalsikh are asking for, to come up in weight and face the hardest hitting guy in the welterweight division, a guy that possesses a left hook that some say is the Kryptonite to Devin Haney … that we’re going to Riyadh to face him? What a great opportunity Turki is putting on the table.
“And here goes Eddie … instead of taking an opportunity to celebrate something his fighters haven’t been able to accomplish, he questions it. So I want to ask Eddie: Is he questioning it because he hasn’t been able to do it? Or is he questioning it just because he can’t believe it can be done?”
Haney said it’s a rare feat for a fighter to stand as a lightweight and welterweight champion.
“It’s historic. And if he doesn’t understand that, maybe Eddie Hearn should definitely go back to snooker, where you’d have a better advantage against the Haneys” Bill Haney said. “In boxing, it’s taken you 38 years.
“Devin is working on his third division. He’s already an undisputed champion [at lightweight]. He’s going to his third continent, making him a global superstar. Eddie hasn’t done that.”
Bill Haney said he would’ve been fine maintaining a low profile during this training camp.
“I’ve been studying,” he said of what he expects will be a serious but tolerable test versus the younger Norman. “The Haneys are working and focused. Until we heard from Eddie ‘The Distraction’ Hearn, the money blocking man himself. Chill out, bro, and let us run this new era of boxing.”
Hearn has promoted several of Haney’s fights, but he’s not doing the November bout headlined by the light-heavyweight title fight between WBC champion David Benavidez and Anthony Yarde.
“If it’s not the Devin Haney era, then you tell us someone else who’s doing this shit?” Bill Haney said. “If you think you’re better, talk to Turki Alalshikh and put them in the gauntlet because Turki is lining all of them up, and we’re going to knock all of them down.”
Bill Haney said by defeating Norman, his son will have affirmed why this strategy is superior to any direction he could have received working for Hearn.
“Eddie, I heard you had $1 billion [to invest in boxing]. Now, give us a billion reasons why you don’t have a Devin Haney.
“Mic drop.”
