Keyshawn Davis fought three times in 2024, starting the year as a prospect and ending it as a contender. Now he has begun 2025 by becoming a lightweight titleholder – and the man with the newly earned WBO belt wants to remain active.
“I want to fight three more times this year,” Keyshawn Davis said on The Ariel Helwani Show, speaking less than 48 hours after dethroning Denys Berinchyk.
Davis commented on how few rounds he has gone in recent appearances: the fourth-round knockout of Berinchyk, a four-minute destruction of Gustavo Lemos in November, a 10-round decision against Miguel Madueno last July and a sixth-round TKO over Jose Pedraza in February 2024.
“I haven’t even been getting real rounds in. I got one full fight in,” Davis said. “I’m young, 25 years old, 13-0. I want to fight three more times this year, and I know I can make it happen.”
Davis acknowledged the uncertainty over ESPN’s deal with his promoter, Top Rank, which could end this July. Because of that, he’s hoping to return in late April or early May, again in July, and once more in October/November.
The first name on his mind is Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, someone Davis also mentioned in the build-up to the Berinchyk fight. Cruz is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Angel Fierro in a grueling war on the February 1 undercard of David Benavidez-David Morrell Jnr. Cruz hasn’t competed at lightweight since July 2023.
Davis would also like to face WBA titleholder Gervonta “Tank” Davis. He’s uncertain whether IBF titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko will return to the ring or retire. And Keyshawn’s friendship with WBC titleholder Shakur Stevenson means that bout isn’t at the top of his list.
“I want to fight all the names and then go to 140 and fight all the names there,” Davis said.
