- 7 Fall 2023 Fashion Trends to Look Forward To—And Shop—Now
BY ROXANNE ADAMIYATT JULY 28, 2023 Source: Town & Country Photo Source: Shidonna Raven Fashion. Copyright. All Rights Reserved. From fall florals to feminine suitings—and mixed metals in between—these are the trends to look forward to this autumn. The dog days of summer are here, and while that means lapping up our time in the sun (with good hats and sun protection obvs), lazy days wearing linen sets and doubling up on the crochet, it also means we are headed to the most exciting time of year for getting dressed: fall. Autumn's crisp temperatures give way to ample opportunities for accessorizing (hello boots and scarves ! ), rich colors and textures, and oh the difference a good jacket or coat could make for an already amazing outfit. With that comes a chance to play with the trends we saw head down the runway in February. And the 2023 fall fashion trends are nothing to scoff at. Here, 7 of our favorite trends straight from the runways to shop now for Fall 2023. Prep Is Back In the age of stealth wealth and the low key rich bitch dressing essentials, it is only natural that prep—and its adjacent classic stylings—should come roaring back into fashion. Some may argue they never left. Sportswear and the preppy athletic activities that come with them are exceedingly popular, as the tailored tweeds, classic cable knit sweaters , and timeless pieces like loafers. ____________________________________________________________ Leather Remix One could argue that leather is perennially in style, sure, but Fall 2023's take on leather relies on interesting and unexpected cuts (patchwork leather), head-to-toe leather suiting, elevated details on leather pieces. No longer does this material have to be considered an accent—it is the look. Pro tip: opt for sleek and ladylike silhouettes for added contrast and interest. Or, take things to the next level with a leather piece in an unexpected colorway—though we would suggest red, as it is the natural evolution from the Barbiecore pink we've seen explode in popularity this summer. _____________________________________________________________ Dark Romance If there's anything to look forward to this fall it's the gothic glamour that came down the runways, especially at Rodarte. Think: Wednesday Addams all grown up. From sumptuous silks and high contrast color palettes of rich blacks and lily white lace collars and feminine mary janes, moody romance will be everything, especially when it comes to evening dressing. _____________________________________________________________ Barbarella Redux Barbarella is back, all but totally revitalizing the shimmering metallic pieces that prove that gold, silver, and other metals can create an armor of femininity, and that sequins aren't the only way to add shimmer. No matter which way you choose, the metallics make the look. _____________________________________________________________ Dare to Be Seen Delicates If heavy metals are making a statement, by contrast, so are delicates. Think: better than your lingerie drawer. Lacy accents and light, silky fabrics add an air of girlishness to juxtapose the classic warmer textures of fall. Grab a lace slip and let it be seen. Giving people a selective (and tasteful) peek at your drawers is nothing to clutch your pearls over. And if lace isn't quite your thing, add some visual interest with sheer pieces instead. The takeaway? It's all about sensuality no matter what you choose. _____________________________________________________________ Late Bloomers Not to invoke a quote that induces eye rolls, while florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, they certainly can be for fall. While there may not be any blooms in sight for a few months, sartorially speaking that won't be the case this fall season. Maybe it's floral embroidery in a subdued color palette, or maybe it's a bright print covered in buds, the key here will be adding in the right accessories (like a suede clutch or shearling) to take your look to an edgier territory. _____________________________________________________________ Power Dressing While oversized blazers and wideleg pantsuits have been all the rage, this season these looks will give way to more tailored versions . Dare we say it, it's about darn time. While the borrowed-from-the-boys-in-the-boardroom look will still reign supreme, keep your style sharp by adding pinstriped pencil skirts , and blazers with sharp lines—and even sharper tailoring— to nip at the waist and heighten your already high glamour vibe. Add a chunky cuff and sheer stockings and you will turn heads. How can you shop sustainably for your home? How can this impact the environment positively? Why? - Fast fashion targets students – shop sustainably instead
By Ava Saunders February 21, 2024 Source: The Daily Texan Photo Source: Unsplash College is a time with many different social and academic opportunities. From dinner with friends to professional interviews, it seems like we need a new outfit for every occasion. Fashion trends are constantly changing, and college students who are exposed to these new styles often feel a constant pressure to keep up. This pressure, combined with a limited budget, leads students to become targets for the fast fashion industry. A reported 72% of college students bought from fast fashion brands in 2022. While these brands provide cheap and convenient options for college students, they pose serious threats to their workers and the environment. The manufacturers responsible for these issues produce in excess to meet the demands of consumers. Therefore, the only solution to this cycle of materialism is for buyers to be conscious about their participation in the fashion industry. Trash to Treasure is a student-led project a part of the Campus Environmental Center that encourages students to shop sustainably through clothing drives and affordable thrift sales. Sora Ahmad, Trash to Treasure operations assistant and textiles and apparel and communications and leadership sophomore, explained the issues with clothing manufacturing. “A lot of the ways that our clothes are made are unsustainable based on the colors that are used to dye it and the people that make the garments themselves,” Ahmad said. “Fashion is the second biggest polluting industry in the world. It’s right behind oil.” Ahmad said that the rise of fast fashion, which occurred within the last 20 years, has increased the pace of trend circulation from years to months, and sometimes even weeks. This change results in overconsumption and drastically increases clothing waste. The industry currently releases around 1.2 billion tons of carbon every year. “It really has perpetuated the culture of continuing to buy and buy as fast and as much as possible,” Ahmad said. The dramatic increase of clothing production not only harms the environment, it also leads to the inhumane treatment of workers. “A lot of the clothes that we consume aren’t actually made domestically, they’re made overseas,” said Haya Prasla, a junior biochemistry major and Trash to Treasure co-lead. “Oftentimes, it’s because big corporations and companies are exploiting the work of these people and not paying them enough and on top of that, they’re working in really unsafe conditions.” Ahmad referred to the infamous Rana Plaza Collapse in Bangladesh in 2013, which killed 1,134 workers, as one such example. “These types of accidents happen every single year,” Ahmad said. “In Bangladesh, in the Philippines, in India and in Africa.” Instead of over purchasing from websites with cheap, mass-produced clothes, students should look for fewer, higher quality wardrobe items. A simple change in shopping choices can help shift support away from companies who exploit their workers in favor of more ethical brands, or practices. “When you’re buying clothes, you should invest in them,” Ahmad said. By shopping sustainably and remaining cognisant of the impact the industry can have, college students can mitigate the dangers of fast fashion. This includes buying less, researching clothing brands before purchasing and shopping secondhand. The issues that come with the rise of fast fashion expose the need for balance between staying trendy and being socially responsible. By being conscious about their purchases, students can promote sustainability and create meaningful changes in the industry. - 12 Fall 2023 Fashion Trends You’ll Actually Want to Wear
BY JAKE HENRY SMITH September 12, 2023 Source: Glamour Photo Source: Shidonna Raven Fashion. All Rights Reserved. Copyright. Trademark. Get ready to see red everywhere . Just as summer’s most popular styling motifs have started to feel stale (sorry, rosettes!), 2023’s fall fashion trends are here to help us hit the reset button. The vibe this season has been hailed as so-called quiet luxury, i.e., high-quality capsule wardrobe essentials that don’t draw attention to themselves. But while that’s not exactly wrong (we saw many trench coats layered over jeans), it’s not the whole story. This season’s runways were dominated by one color: rich red, which popped up in practically every show. Much styling leaned minimalist, with high-quality takes on essentials—casual black leggings, white T-shirts, fall coats, cozy sweaters—arranged into pared-down ensembles you can wear to work, and will carry over seamlessly into winter. On the other end of the spectrum, art-inspired prints, witchy silhouettes, and glitzy shoes abounded. And 2010s style is officially back; the era’s staples, like peplum and off-the-shoulder tops, have been reinterpreted for right now. (Fear not: They look great.) Breathe some new life into your closet with these fall fashion trends, which are about to be big. To interpret them with your existing wardrobe, you can also shop our trend edit below—and get a head start on this season’s most exciting pieces. These are the 2023 runway trends you need to know about now. All-red everything Ask any designer and you’ll get the same answer: The color of fall 2023 is red. As opposed to the typically muted earth tones you’d expect for fall, the hue is bold and beguiling, handily commanding a room or a social feed. No matter your shade of choice. - These Will Be the Top Fashion Trends in 2024, According to Professional Stylists—and You Can Shop Them Now
By Lauren Taylor January 4, 2024 Source: Real Simple Photo Source: Unsplash Think classic denim, preppy staples, and ‘90s workwear. If you’re looking for a preview of what fashion trends to expect in 2024, you’ve come to the right place. We did some research ourselves and got the scoop from Stitch Fix professional stylists to determine what everyone will be wearing in the upcoming year. As it turns out, bows, preppy styles, wardrobe basics, and ‘90s and ‘00s fashion are all in. “I love the idea of investing in timeless, versatile pieces that I know I’ll love for years to come,” says one stylist, Ray Carter. Another Stitch Fix stylist, Stephanie Arroyo, tells us that she's excited for the “denim-on-denim” looks from the 2000s to make a reappearance. “It’s classic without being too dressy or casual,” she notes. Read on to discover more 2024 fashion trends and how to style them, and shop pieces that you can add to your closet now. Wardrobe Basics The perfect non-trend trend is wardrobe basics . Stitch Fix stylists have noticed people requesting classic pieces more frequently, such as button-downs and solid colors. According to stylist Jessica Sockel, “A tucked in button-down is a timeless look. For an office-ready ensemble, style with wide-leg denim and throw on a tie-waist trench coat, worn open to show off the rest of your ‘fit.” She adds that basics can be worn casually or more dressed up: “Wear denim and your favorite sneakers during the day, then swap with heels when you’re ready for a night out.” And the best part is that these items don’t go out of fashion, so you’ll get plenty of use out of them, and you can endlessly mix and match. Preppy Styles Go back to school with academia-inspired styles like blazers and pleated skirts. “Try experimenting with plaid skirts and trousers that can easily be dressed down with a graphic tee while still maintaining a polished, preppy look,” says Stitch Fix stylist Arroyo. The trend also lends itself well to layering, making it perfect for winter. Pair a sweater vest with an oversized blazer or throw on a cable-knit sweater. ‘90s and Early 2000s The resurgence of ‘90s and early aughts trends will continue into 2024, and that includes styles like low-rise jeans, maxi skirts, and cargo pants. You’re in luck if you prefer silver jewelry over gold, too, as the tone that was popular in the 1990s is making a comeback. While cargo pants might be a hit-or-miss for some people, stylist Sockel says that they’re easy to dress up or down. Emiko Strah, another Stitch Fix stylist, adds, “Whether you’re after a more utilitarian, street-style approach or looking for an elevated cargo pant that can be dressed up, there’s a style to match everyone’s unique taste." Bow Accents Bows aren’t just for your hair anymore (though you can wear them there, too). They started appearing all over the place last spring, with brands adding them to seemingly everything—from jackets to shoes. And according to Pinterest, searches for “bow outfit” have increased by 190 percent. You can add a mini clip or single bow to your hair or go all in with bow-accented blouses, ballet flats, and accessories. How can you shop sustainably for your home?
