- The decline of Couture, The Rise of handmade – Riving Couture
Source: Shidonna Raven Fashion. All Rights Reserved. Copyright. Please contact us for republishing permission and citation formatting. Photo Source: Unsplash, Ethan Bodnar There are strict standards that govern couture clothing. Many designer that claim, albeit loosely, to be couture are not indeed couture. During a time when clothes were custom made, couture gained its rise and prominence and places like Paris, as on might expect. A couple of factors contributed to the decline of couture. A world war and the industrial revolution feed the demand and desire for more affordable clothing. And out of these, among other factors, ready to ware was born. Shoppers went from several fittings made by skillful masters to picking their clothes straight off the racks hot of industrial clothing factories. Those who could not afford dressmakers would likely have made their own dresses at home, had it made more inexpensively and likely kept their clothing a lot longer than the throw away nature of ready to wear. With ready to ware clothing industry stores are constantly changing their offerings based on seasons and many times more often than just the four seasons. Because clothes became more affordable and lesser quality than couture clothing the ware cycle of the clothing became much shorter. Handmade clothing, at Shidonna Raven Fashion, is a revival of the timeless tradition of couture clothing that still is in high demand today but rarely truly obtained. Our clothing and accessorizes are all handmade one at a time with the same mastery techniques of traditional coutur-ist. What is the definition of couture? What are couture techniques? - The gift of giving: Franciscan Center Giving Tree
Photo Source: Unsplash, Sharon McCutcheon Help Make winter a little warmer for our brothers and sisters in need! As the days grow colder and the holidays approach, the Franciscan Center is reaching out to our friends in the community to help us provide warm clothing, toiletries, and other essential items to the men, women, and children who come to our door seeking help. Your faith community, school, office or family can make an important difference in our community in the days ahead by collecting warm coats, hats, scarves, gloves, socks and other critical items for the Franciscan Center. Our Holiday Giving Tree Project supplies essential winter clothing such as hats, coats, scarves, mittens, thermal underwear and socks, as well as personal toiletry items to those in need. Items for children and babies such as diapers, baby food and formula, small jackets, mittens, and knitted hats are in especially short supply. We ask that you collect new, unwrapped items for the men, women, and children whom we serve at the Franciscan Center, which we will distribute throughout the holiday season and into the coldest months this winter. Items can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Franciscan Center, 101 W. 23rd Street, Baltimore, MD 21218. - Timeless Autumn Fashion
Source: Shidonna Raven Fashion. All Rights Reserved. Copyright. Please contact u s for republishing permission and citation formatting. Photo Source: Shidonna Raven Fashion - Chameleon Skirt The truth of the matter is in the midst of a pandemic many have become creative with their finances. Others have pivoted and adjusted to a different ways of working. Others have simply thrived in a pandemic market. This has left some getting creative with their wardrobe. As true fashionistas we understand fashion history and the market. The industrial revolution gave rise to ready to ware clothing and then to what some have coined as disposable clothing. This type of clothing is not made to last. The construction is made for a short time and is often based on trends rather than style. These type of shoppers are accustom to spending $30 dollars or less on a item lasting a few seasons or a few years at best. Its true those people who buy style rather than trend fashion will spend 6 even 10 times more than the people who buy disposable clothing. Rest assured their clothing does not go out of style because it is based on style rather than trends. And it last far longer than a few seasons or years because it is created or constructed to last. As we do with many things, fashion included, we reflect on how effective and useful it is. Ready to wear and disposable fashion was suppose to make fashion more affordable. Nonetheless, as with many things ….sometimes you get what you pay for and that is it. Ask yourself: how much did I spend on this shirt? How long did it last? How much did you spend on that item (divided by) per year you wore it? - The Best Wools
Source: Shidonna Raven Fashion. All Rights Reserved. Copyright. Please contact us for republishing permission and citation formatting. Photo Source: Unsplash, Sam Carter There are many amazing wools out there. And since winter is right around the corner for some and already here for others, lets talk about the wools we love and why. Our list is fairly short: we like merino wool and cashmere wool. Who does not like cashmere. But, to be more specific we think these two wools are the best wools because it offers the best of what wool has to offer: warmth and comfort. During the winter months we want warmth and comfort more than anything as we brave the winter weather. The only thing better than getting wool for the holidays is giving wool for the holidays. But, back to the wool. Many wools are lovely. However, the primary reason we like these two wools is their comfort of ware. They lack the itchiness that tends to plague other wools especially during long wear. Other less comfortable wools (itchy) are great for short term ware and for items that are not worn close to the body, such as a sweater vest. What are your favorite wools? How do you use them? Why? Most of our wools are merino and can be shopped here… Share the love with your fellow fashionistas by sharing this post with 3 friends and family members today! #fashion #women #bestwool #shidonnaravenfacom #knits #shidonnaravenfashiondesign #winter #fallfashion #autumnfashion #womensfashion #fall #wools #wool #clothes #shidonnaraven #shidonnaravenfashion #autumn #winterfashion #bestwools #woolswelove
