The price of fur began to climb, and it was seen as a luxury to own a piece of fur in your wardrobe. While fur coats were more popular towards the beginning of the 20th century, styles began to shrink and shorten as they became more acceptable to wear during the daytime. The cloche hat in particular came into popularity during the 1920s due to its unique bell shape. Its round crown and small brim was accentuated by a simplistic decoration like a bow, flower, or art deco-inspired shape. Oftentimes, women had to tilt their head back while they were wearing it because the low-brim made it slightly difficult to see. What historical styles do you wear today? They were considered commonplace in many women's lives and within their respective wardrobes. During the day, leather and suede gloves were typically worn around the house. During the evening and on special occasions, lace or silk-lined gloves were worn, and they were usually longer in length. In the wintertime, gloves were lined with wool or fur to keep warm. • These 11 Fashion Trends Will Rule Fall 2021

By Abby Hepworth Aug. 10, 2021 Source: PureWow Photo Source: Unsplash, Flaunter Summer isn’t quite over yet, but we’re already looking ahead to the season of cozy cashmere, plaid skirts and pumpkin spice everything. Last fall we were more than happy to wrap ourselves in sweatpants and fancy PJs while working from home, but this year we’re eager to put together outfits that are a bit more fashion forward as we slowly start incorporating more restaurant visits, office days and hangouts with friends into our schedule. Here you’ll find the top 11 fall fashion trends for fall 2021 to start shopping (and wearing) right this very second. From the return of Rachel Green as style icon to Doug Funnie’s signature piece to comfortable heels you can actually walk in, here’s everything you’ll want to add to cart for fall. 1. ‘90S REVIVAL ‘90s fashion has been enjoying a return to the spotlight for a few years now, but this fall we expect the trend to go even further with folks rocking the decade’s staple looks from head to toe, rather than using them as accent pieces. Pair your new favorite baguette bags with sheath dresses, tall square-toe boots and maxi-length cardigans. Or wear a cropped cardigan set over a miniskirt and sneakers with ankle socks. Layer white T-shirts and grungy boots under silk slip dresses, pull a plaid shacket on over skater jeans and try some cute overalls with a polo tee. When in doubt just channel Rachel Green and you’ll be good to go. 2. SATURATED HUES Typically the transition from summer to fall means swapping out pretty pastels and tropical brights for shades of navy, khaki green, burgundy and other moody hues. But this year vibrant shades still reign supreme, albeit with an autumnal twist. Think boosted jewel tones, deep magenta, mustard yellow and other rich options. The best way to rock this trend is by mixing and matching unexpected combinations, like peachy orange and bright blue or bubblegum pink and marigold, to form a look that’s both wonderfully colorful and seasonally appropriate. 3. LOOSE-FIT DENIM Skinny jeans will always hold a special place in our hearts, but for fall 2021, looser styles like mom jeans, flares, bootcuts and boyfriend jeans are the way to go. Mom jeans and loose straight-leg cuts in particular are the most popular silhouettes, as are cross-front waists for an added fun detail. To balance out extra fabric on bottom we suggest wearing a slim-fit tee and tailored blazer, cropped sweater or elegant blouse tucked in. 4. SWEATER VESTS This Doug Funnie-approved trend first popped up in 2020, but it is still going strong in Fall 2021. The most popular styles are those with some texture and detailing, rather than plain monochrome cashmere, and a bit of an oversize fit. While the weather’s still warm, try wearing one with nothing underneath (except a bra, if you like) with some loose-fit jeans. As temperatures continue to drop, you can layer your vests over shirtdresses, button-downs, turtlenecks and even another sweater. 5. MIDRIFF-BARING SETS This summer we saw wrap-around strings on bare midriffs in the form of bikinis , crop tops and midi dresses. This fall the trend is taking a simpler turn with hints of skin peeking out between coordinating tops and midi or maxi skirts. You can go bold and show a lot of your middle à la Lorde in her music video for Solar Power , or keep it subtle with a sliver that’s really only visible while you’re on the move. 6. PRINTED PANTS Jeans and trousers in snake prints, checkerboard, zebra stripes and punchy florals are popping up left and right. Unlike floaty wide-leg styles you might wear in the summer, these iterations feature much heavier, more structured fabrics like denim, corduroy or wool and have a more tailored fit. Have fun pairing them with other vibrant prints or go simple and let them steal the show under a plain black, white or gray sweater. 7. PUFFY, QUILTED AND TEXTURED HANDBAGS Think crossbodies that resemble puffer coats, intricately woven leather clutches and ruching galore. Some bags might even combine all three. Perhaps our favorite thing about this trend, is that you can essentially pick and choose any style you like—a large tote that fits your laptop, a mid-size crossbody for weekend errands or a mini that fits just the essentials for a night out. The chicest styles are monochrome leather, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still rock a puffed-up nylon clutch or a ruched zebra-print shoulder bag. 8. LAVENDER While most of the shades you’ll see this fall are much more saturated and rich, you’re also likely to see a ton of pale lilac and lavender. The pretty hue popped up on runways in every city during fashion month. and in a wide variety of styles too. Pick up one or two statement pieces, like a lavender blazer, wide-leg trousers or a floaty midi dress, then mix and match them with other shades of purple or classic basics, like jeans and a T-shirt. 9. PLATFORMS AND FLATFORMS Flatform espadrilles and ‘90s-inspired sandals were one of the top shoe trends this summer, and the elevated styles will definitely carry over into fall and winter. Platform loafers and lace-up boots, as well as clogs and ‘70s-esque heels, will give you a chic lift that’s also much easier to walk in than stilettos (thank god). 10. SEQUINS AND SPARKLES FOR DAY We haven’t been out and about in over a year and now we plan to live it up —or such is the thought behind “ revenge dressing .” Folks are pulling out the most fun, fabulous pieces from their wardrobes, including NYE-ready sequins and other shiny metallics, and wearing them anywhere they please, from coffee dates to brunch to a quick jaunt to the grocery store. The best way to make these statement materials work is by pairing them with super casual basics, like a white button-down, raw-hem denim or an easy T-shirt. 11. DARK ACADEMIA Think The Heathers with a punk twist, or Harry Potter but for chic adults instead of angsty teens. This moody trend started with Gen Z on TikTok , but really it works for just about any age or style. Stand out pieces include pleated mini and midi skirts in dark hues, tailored leather blazers and jackets, and preppy plaids in deep shades of green, navy, burgundy, brown and black. • Khloé Kardashian, more stars slammed for working with fast fashion brand Shein

By Melissa Minton August 19, 2021 | 2:18pm | Updated Source: Page Six Photo Source: Unsplash, Karina Tes Is Khloé’s latest gig a fashion faux pas? On Wednesday, Khloé Kardashian announced her partnership with Shein , the Chinese retailer whose affordable clothes are beloved by Gen-Z and ubiquitous on TikTok. The Good American co-founder will serve as a judge for the brand’s Shein X 100K Challenge, a new design competition, alongside celebrity stylist Law Roach, designer Christian Siriano, former J.Crew exec Jenna Lyons and InStyle style director Laurel Pantin. Emerging designers will get a chance to win a prize of $100,000, along with a chance to be featured in Shein’s Fall/Winter 2021 virtual fashion showcase. But like many fast fashion retailers, Shein — which adds nearly 1,000 new items to its inventory daily, with most costing less than $10 — has been accused of copying the work of smaller designers and artists. And fans made their feelings known in the comments of Kardashian’s post. “Is this a joke???? After shein knocks off small designers,” one person wrote, receiving nearly 2,000 likes. “Shein is one of the most unethical fast fashion brands,” another said. “They steal designs Khloe. Please don’t promote them,” a third chimed in. Yet another person pointed out the impact of low-priced, trendy styles on our planet , writing, “Fast fashion is bad for the environment — not cute.” “Shein takes these issues very seriously and respects the intellectual property rights of artists and designers. We have policies and procedures in place to monitor and swiftly rectify any issues,” a representative for the company told Page Six Style. “Shein X, is an incubator program that was developed to specifically support small independent talents and give them opportunity to grow their revenue streams, gain exposure, and tap a massive Gen Z audience across the globe. The judges who participated in the Shein X 100k Challenge support emerging, small and independent designers and we are all excited to see their designs and creativity come to life on the show.” Fellow judges Siriano, Roach and Lyons also faced criticism from their followers after posting about their involvement in the project. The “Project Runway” designer simply announced he’d be deleting the negative comments, while Roach wrote , “My Tribe please just watch this when it airs and you will see why I choose to do this!!! I promise you will be proud of me.” “Happy for you for the partnership, but it had to Shein?!?!?! They’re ripping off so many indie designers, not to talk about the impact on nature and who knows the conditions of the workers….,” one fan of Zendaya’s stylist commented. Lyons, meanwhile, pointed to the core mission behind the design competition. “The reason I participated – if you are interested – is because the ENTIRE PROCESS was designed to support young designers, and all of the contestants were incredibly talented, passionate, and deserving of a chance at winning 100k,” she wrote . The trendsetter resorted to turning off comments, and asked her followers to “take a look at [the program] and see what you think before jumping to conclusions,” adding that “everyone deserves a second chance.” Kardashian’s sister Kim has previously clashed with fast fashion brands, calling them out for knocking off clothes she wears within days. She even won nearly $3 million from Missguided after filing a lawsuit accusing the company of using her name and likeness to sell lower-priced copies of various outfits she’s worn. Khloé is far from the first celebrity to pair up with Shein. In 2020, Katy Perry, Lil Nas X, Rita Ora and Doja Cat performed for the brand’s virtual fashion show, which featured special guests Hailey Baldwin, Storm Reid, Tyler Cameron and more. And earlier this year, Nick Jonas, Steve Aoki, Maren Morris and more performed for another virtual concert for the company. Both events benefited charity. Reps for Kardashian didn’t immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment. • Everything from what we wear to where we shop will be different

By Katie Attardo Jun 8, 2021 Source: Marie Claire Photo Source: Unsplash, Matteo Jorjoson Shidonna Raven Fashion. Copyright. All Rights Reserved. The Future of Shopping “Revenge-buying ,” aka shopping to make up for lost time, is a highly probable outcome of the pandemic, Forbes-Bell says, as people are looking to shop as a form of liberation. “It’s likely that people will use these purchases as a way to explore their individual tastes and creativity, which had been stifled due to the monotony of loungewear choices.” In terms of shopping models, Forbes-Bell thinks consumers go hybrid. “They will still desire the easiness of online shopping but our ingrained desire for social interaction will give physical stores a boost. How long the in-store boost lasts depends on the ability of physical stores to provide an immersive experience to keep consumers engaged.” But just because they'll be buying again, it doesn't mean shoppers will be spending recklessly. “The pandemic has also shifted the way trends are formed from trickle down to trickle up,” she says. “Rather than being largely dictated by fashion seasons, consumers are looking closer to home and on their social media feeds as a source for inspiration. By engaging in mindful shopping practices consumers can ensure that they are buying what they truly value and avoid the trappings of retail therapy and instant gratification both on and offline.” So How Will We Get Dressed? “Comfort has remained an important fixture in our wardrobe and that’s something many will find hard to relinquish anytime soon,” says Forbes-Bell. “Workwear will be more functional than before with elevated loungewear pieces taking center stage. Similarly, more comfortable footwear options like sneakers, espadrilles, slingbacks, and loafers will remain crowd favorites. As things get back to normal, pumps and moderate heels heights will be trending up while sky-scraping heels will continue to take a backseat.” Not so shocking, some of the best-sellers will be accessories, as they are an easy way to add fun to a wardrobe. “Globally, we’re seeing consumers reach for jewelry, charms, and pendants that channel an early-aughts vibe which speaks to the pervasiveness of nostalgia dressing and the shortening of fashion cycles.” Which Shidonna Raven Fashion will you choose? How will you accessorize? Which design is your favorite? Why? Send us a picture ! It could be featured in our blog. • Richard Buckley, Longtime Fashion Journalist, Dies at 72

By WWD Staff SEPTEMBER 20, 2021, 6:48PM Source: WWD Photo Source: Unsplash, Charisse Kenion Longtime fashion journalist Richard Buckley died Sunday at age 72. “It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley,” a statement from the designer said. “Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side. He died of natural causes after a long illness.” Buckley was born in Binghamton, N.Y., in 1948 and was raised as part of a military family in New York, France and Germany. After graduating from the University of Maryland in Munich, he began to pursue a career in journalism in 1979 at New York Magazine. In 1982, he moved to Paris as the European editor of Fairchild Publications’ Daily News Record, the men’s wear counterpart to WWD. In that and subsequent roles, he had the uncanny ability to spot what was “next” — the young designer who would become the Next Big Thing; a club everyone would soon be flocking to, or a musician, actor or actress set to explode onto the scene. A man with ramrod straight posture and piercing blue eyes, Buckley’s inquisitiveness knew few, if any, bounds, and he somehow managed to tap into what would be influencing men’s fashions not only a season ahead, but several seasons ahead. And he would do it all with a quietly diligent, soft-spoken manner that endeared him to almost everyone he met — and that hid a sense of humor that delighted in spotting the absurd, or that could make even the most cutting remark come across with seeming kindness. In 1986, Buckley was called back to New York by editorial director John B. Fairchild to be editor in chief of the company’s newest publication, Scene, which was aimed at the twentysomething daughter of the reader of Fairchild’s W magazine. He also held the title of fashion editor at WWD. While Scene — which was meant to have the gritty feel of the downtown world it supposedly covered — never took off in the way Fairchild hoped, Buckley still managed to carve out a niche for it as an insider’s must-read to learn about the newest trends in fashion, music, art, culture and more. After Scene shuttered, Buckley left Fairchild in 1988 to join Tina Brown at Vanity Fair, where he became social editor and, again, rapidly turned that beat into more than just a party page. In 1990, he and Ford would move to Milan, where Buckley became European editor of Mirabella magazine and contributing editor at Italian Vogue, while Ford joined the design staff at Gucci. After the couple relocated to Paris, Buckley became editor in chief of Vogue Hommes International. He would continue to contribute the occasional fashion article even after the couple moved to London. Buckley most recently lived in Los Angeles, New York and Santa Fe. He is survived by his husband, Tom Ford , as well as their son, Alexander John Buckley Ford. Funeral arrangements could not be learned at presstime. Why do you have a passion for fashion?
