1) Handprint and questions about mom

This simple activity was always a favorite among mothers back when I taught preschool. This project is perfect for children three and up, but younger kids can enjoy it depending on their vocabulary and listening comprehension.

This project requires minimal supplies. All you need is washable paint in the color of your choice, a piece of paper, and a pen or printer. Paint the child’s hand and have them leave their handprint on the paper, where the following questions are listed below.

  • Why do you love Mommy?

  • What does Mommy always say to you?

  • What makes Mommy happy?

  • How does Mommy make you laugh?

  • What is Mommy really good at?

  • What is Mommy’s favorite food?

Leave space in between each question to fill out their answers if you are handwriting them. Write down word for word what they say, pauses and verbal static included. Be sure to write the year at the top. Because I wanted this gift myself, I created a word doc for my husband to fill out with the children. He then prints it and has them do their handprint in the middle of the page.

  1. Plan a party for her and the other special moms in her life—her mom, her sister, her best friend, and, of course, those moms’ children. She’ll adore being surrounded by her closest loved ones.

  2. Give her the Gift of Good Health with a subscription the the Shidonna Raven Garden & Cook eZine. This is yet another gift that gives all year round and might keep her around a little bit longer.

  3. Of course, we can’t forget about the old standby! Treat mom to a gift (see the above Gift Guide we put together for you) that is thoughtful and special. Don’t just buy another robe or sweater, unless you know she really wants one. Consider buying her something that she wouldn’t typically buy for herself or something that she’s been talking about for a while. Has she wanted new tableware? Does she have an empty place on her wall that she has been wanting to fill? Could she use a day to treat herself? Get personal with it!

  4. Give her the gift of Fitness/Excercise (Health) for all those family activities everyone likes to do or mom does in support of the family whether she is rasing kids or bouncing grand kids on her knees.

  5. Get her Fine Art work. Artwork can be passed on from generation to generation. She might enjoy passing this on to grandchildren or children to celebrate and build generational wealth.

  6. Buy her a Heirloom. These gifts can also be gifted to future generations.
