Yoenis Tellez needed nearly all 10 rounds this time, but he knocked out another more experienced opponent Friday night.
The talented junior middleweight prospect viciously finished fellow Cuban Livan Navarro with a left hook in the 10th and final round of their 154-pound bout on the Jake Paul-Andre
August undercard at Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida. Tellez (7-0, 6 KOs) dropped Navarro in the third round, yet he appeared on his way to a convincing points victory before his picturesque left hook knocked Navarro unconscious.
Navarro (15-2, 9 KOs), a Miami resident, fell flat on his back with 1:41 to go in their fight. Referee Alicia Collins immediately waved a halt to the action and officially stopped their bout at 1:21 of the 10th round.
In his previous fight, Tellez stopped Spain’s Sergio Garcia in the third round on the Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. undercard July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Garcia (34-3, 14 KOs) hadn’t been beaten by knockout or technical knockout before he encountered Tellez.
The rounds before the 10th round mostly mirrored each other, with Tellez landing the more damaging punches, but Navarro countering with enough firepower to keep Tellez honest.
Yet another right hand by Tellez made Navarro retreat barely 20 seconds into the ninth round. Navarro nailed Tellez with three right uppercuts in the final minute of the ninth round.

Tellez landed his right hand with just over a minute on the clock in the seventh round. Navarro fired back with power punches to keep Tellez from capitalizing.
They traded hard shots again a few seconds before the bell rang to end the seventh round.
Tellez rocked Navarro with a right hand that landed with about 25 seconds to go in the sixth round. Another right by Tellez affected Navarrao barely 10 seconds later as well.
Another right by Tellez landed a few seconds before the fifth round ended. Tellez’s right to the side of Navarro’s head hurt him with about 1:15 remaining in the fifth round.
A round after he was dropped, Navarro nailed Tellez with a right hand when there was just under a minute remaining in the fourth round.
Three right hands by Tellez sent Navarro to his gloves and knees with 49 seconds to go in the third round. Navarro beat Collins’ count and fired hard shots at Tellez once the action resumed to try to fend off his aggressive opponent.
Navarro bled from a cut on the bridge of his nose as he returned to his corner when the third round ended.
A left hook by Tellez made Navarro retreat 20 seconds into the third round.
Tellez landed a right uppercut and then a left hook as Navarro tried to move away from him late in the second round.
A left hook by Navarro knocked Tellez off balance with 45 seconds on the clock in the first round. Tellez landed a right to the side of Navarro’s head a little less than 1:20 into the opening round.
