Malik Scott, head trainer for former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, expects fireworks if a deal is finalized to face former two-time champion Anthony Joshua.

There are circulating rumors of a possible Wilder vs. Joshua fight, at the end of the year in the Middle East.

Scott feels Wilder vs. Joshua is far more exciting than a potential undisputed title fight between undefeated world champions Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. “It’s not in comparison to Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua, that’s nowhere near as exciting a match-up. Usyk and Fury is, in my opinion, not an exciting match-up," Scott told ES News. “Even if Fury went in to knock him out, it wouldn’t be as exciting as Deontay and AJ going at it.”

Wilder has been out of the ring since blasting out Robert Helenius in one round back in October of 2022. There is no timeline for his next fight. There is a possibility of facing Andy Ruiz in a WBC final eliminator or waiting for a much bigger opportunity, like Joshua, in the second half of the year.

Joshua saw action last month, with a twelve round unanimous decision over Jermaine Franklin. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak at the hands of Usyk. Joshua is possibly going to fight in the summer, with Dillian Whyte being mentioned as a frontrunner to face him.

Fury has a tentative return date of July 22 at Wembley Stadium, with names like Andy Ruiz and Zhilei Zhang being mentioned as potential opponents. While Usyk is bound to make a mandatory defense against WBA 'regular' champion Daniel Dubois. Should Usyk overcome Dubois, he is then tied to another mandatory defense, under the IBF, to Filip Hrgovic.
