The Newark superstar was in superb form to become unified champion at 130lbs. It was a hectic weekend of boxing with big fights taking place in both New York and Las Vegas.

In Nevada, Shakur Stevenson demonstrated all his qualities as he dominated Oscar Valdez from the first bell to confirm his spot as the world’s best super-featherweight, but was it enough to elevate the Newark man into the DAZN pound for pound rankings?

The answer is yes. At 24 years of age, Stevenson’s rise up the ratings has been impressive, and he’s hardly put a foot wrong on his way to becoming world champion at both featherweight and the division above.

Saturday’s fight with Valdez was intended to be a tough test, but Stevenson made light work of his opponent and improved his credentials massively in one performance.

Entering the rankings at number ten, Stevenson has replaced Josh Taylor, who drops out due to his performance against Jack Catterall earlier this year. Despite retaining his world titles, many believed that Taylor was fortunate to do so, and his lacklustre display means he exits the top ten.

For Stevenson, the chance to progress higher will present itself if he decides to move to 135lbs and test himself against some of the sport’s biggest names such as Vasily Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis.
