Ryan Garcia might have broken the internet on Saturday night with his win over Devin Haney and former welterweight champion Keith Thurman had plenty to say on the fight afterwards.

Garcia was the star of the evening as he dropped Haney three times en route to a career-defining performance, and the most notable boxing moment of 2024 so far.

Former unified WBA and WBC welterweight world champion Thurman, 30-1 ( 22 KOs), had been called out by Devin Haney and his team in the past, so it was no surprise when Thurman took to the internet once the upset occurred. Thurman, who recently saw his pay-per-view fight with Tim Tszyu fall through when he suffered an injury less than two weeks out from the fight, wrote: “Congrats Ryan. No pop Haney has no survival skill, no adjustments, he had time to pull it together tonight. Was not his night. Good fight. Not fight of the year like the commentators were hyping. Run it back Ryan. Those pillow hands can’t hurt you. Easy money.”

Many felt Garcia was able to do the damage he did because he did not respect Haney’s power. While Haney has picked up knockout victories in nearly half of his fights, at the world-class level Haney’s power has yet to be on full display.

Garcia was more than willing to stand his ground to land his shots and that led to Garcia dropping Haney three times in the fight and the performance has caused some to question whether Haney’s ceiling is at junior welterweight.

“I told Bill Haney last [year] calling [talking about] his boy ready for PPV at 147 I said you boy will get hurt at 147. He’s being punished at 140 tonight,” added Thurman, via X.
