Trainer Jose Benavidez Sr wants Jermall Charlo to stop talking and sign the contract to fight David Benavidez next.

The undefeated Jermall (32-0, 22 KOs) is the one that Jose Sr. wants for his son, former two-time WBC 168-lb champion Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs), to fight next.

In a positive sign, Charlo said on Wednesday that Benavidez is one of the guys he would like to face next. However, the 32-year-old Jermall also mentioned wanting to fight Gennadiy Golovkin, Oscar De La Hoya, Demetrius Andrade, and Chris Eubank Jr as well.

Showtime president Stephen Espinoza says Benavidez is the easiest one to make of the fighters on Charlo’s wishlist. Trying to get the 40-year-old Golovkin and 49-year-old De La Hoya to fight Charlo is unlikely to the extreme. It’s important that Charlo face a quality opponent for his next match because he’s gone through a six-year dry spell in which he’s fought middle-of-the-road opposition in record-padding fights.

Jermall has got to take a break from the lesser opposition and face Benavidez if he wants to make the big bucks and potentially earn a fight against the big tuna, Canelo Alvarez. Charlo isn’t going to excite the boxing public in seeing him fight Canelo if he’s facing guys like Maciej Sulecki, Juan Macias Montiel, and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. “That’s what we’re trying to do: look impressive to get those Charlos. Imagine the two brothers; that would be insane,” said Jose Benavidez Sr to Fight Hub TV about his desire to make David Benavidez vs. Jermall Charlo and Jose Benavidez Jr vs. Jermell Charlo fights. Jose Benavidez (27-1-1, 18 KOs) is fighting 34-year-old Danny Garcia this Saturday night on Showtime, but it’s going to require a win over him as well as one of the top contenders at 154 for him to earn a title shot against undisputed champion Jermell Charlo.

Jose Jr. won’t get that fight from beating smallish Danny Garcia because of A). He’s not a 154-pounder, and B). He needs a victory over a top contender like Sebastian Fundora.

“Hopefully, [Jose Benavidez] Jr takes care of business on Saturday [against Danny Garcia], and that’s what we’re going to have if that happens,” said Jose Sr. “I have a message to the older one [Jermall], the one that is trying to go to 168.

“He just posted that he wants to fight David [Benavidez] and wants to fight Boo Boo. Man, shut the f**** up. Let’s make this f*** fight happen. Let’s make it in November. It’s an easy fight to make. Shut the f*** up.

“You’re talking a lot of s***. Let’s make it happen. We’re here and ready to go,” said Jose Sr about his hopes to make the David Benavidez vs. Jermall fight. “If you say you want this fight, let’s sign the contract, and that’s it. It’s an easy fight to make. We’re the same company. He’s just trying to confuse the fans,” said Jose Sr.
