There’s something about Keyshawn Davis that apparently rubs Floyd Schofield the wrong way. With the two going back and forth in recent interviews, the 20-year-old lightweight prospect has made his feelings known that a showdown against the former Olympic silver medalist is one that he’s ready for now. Davis, however, has shown little interest, claiming that his younger rival is a bit too green to step foot inside the ring against him.

Davis, 24, has his sights set on bigger goals. Following his ninth-round stoppage victory over Anthony Yigit, Davis (8-0, 6 KOs) is hoping that a subsequent victory against Francesco Patera on July 22nd will lead him to the doorstep of a championship opportunity. His dreams, however, won’t be realized according to Schofield. Although Davis’ skills have been lauded by just about everyone, Schofield has what he believes is an appropriate comparison to his overall abilities.

“There go Keyshawn right there,” said Schofield to 210 Boxing TV while pointing to a landfill. “Trash.” Currently in the building stage of his young career, Schofield (14-0, 11 KOs) has gigantic plans of his own. In short order, the young up-and-comer is convinced that he’ll meet the lightweight division’s top names sooner rather than later.

Davis though, considering his age range, could present a roadblock of sorts for Schofield before he reaches the sports crescendo. But while a future mega-fight between the pair could be on the cards, Schofield finds the thought of himself in a life-and-death clash with Davis as a comical one. Having watched Davis from a distance, Schofield has no choice but to admit that Davis has done a good job building his name and profile in a relatively short amount of time.

However, in terms of how a showdown between them would play out, Schofield doesn't envision a world where Davis is even remotely competitive with him.

“He a stepping stone. Just somebody to step on.”
