At one point, Erickson Lubin was the young gun. The Florida native was just an 18-year-old pup when he made his debut in 2013. What he lacked in experience, he made up for in eye-catching skills and power. Fast forward a decade later, and Lubin is now the old-seasoned vet, even though he’s just 27 years old.

The last 10-plus years of Lubin’s career were used as a learning experience. He’s enjoyed the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. At this stage, he’s somewhat in the middle.

After reeling off six consecutive victories, Lubin’s win streak came crashing down at the hands of Sebastian Fundora. A fifth-round stoppage victory over Luis Arias, however, got him back on track. Now, he’ll look to knock off an up-and-coming contender anxious to build his name and show off his game. BoxingScene.com learned that Lubin and 22-year-old Jesus Ramos are being eyed for September 30th.

So far, Lubin’s title aspirations haven’t been realized. Meaning, Ramos is nothing more than an unwanted stop sign on his path to championship gold.

“I got a young kid in front of me trying to take my spot," Lubin told MillCity Boxing. "It’s my job to run him over. He’s in the way.”

Young or not, Ramos appears to be ready for them all. Undefeated and relentless with his pressure, Ramos (20-0, 16 KOs) is hoping to push himself into the championship mix.

When last seen, the Arizona native was using the carcass of Joey Spencer as a springboard up the ranks, stopping the highly-rated prospect in the seventh round earlier this year. Ramos has looked good, great even. But before Lubin (25-2, 18 KOs) lauds him like the rest of his contemporaries, he finds it difficult to pull the trigger on those superlatives. The main reason is the underwhelming list of opponents Ramos has taken on so far.

“He’s a young kid but to be honest, he ain’t fight nobody.”
