Featherweight Bruce Carrington is awaiting a title shot, which he believes will come next year at the latest. However, Carrington is not impressed with any of the current champions.

Carrington last fought at the beginning of the month, stopping Brayan De Gracia in eight rounds. Afterwards, he called out Naoya Inoue, the undisputed junior featherweight champion and pound-for-pound talent, who is expected to next move up to featherweight. Carrington was also present to watch WBO featherweight ruler Rafael Espinoza knock out Sergio Chirino in four rounds this past Friday.

Carrington (12-0, 8 KOs), 27, spoke to ESPN’s Mark Kriegel about his future and thoughts on the featherweight division, making it clear he wants to fight for a title no later than early 2025.

“Each one of them has their gifts,” Carrington said about the titleholders. “I wouldn’t say I am impressed.”

Carrington elaborated on his statement about WBO titleholder Espinoza, WBA titlist Nick Ball, WBC titleholder Rey Vargas, and IBF champion Luis Alberto Lopez and said that while he could see talent in them, he did not see “generational talent” in any of them.

“It’s not any of them that reach out to me as they’re special,” Carrington said. “But they have good gifts, and I understand why some of those guys are champions.”

As for who Carrington wants to fight, it is quite simple. He said he will fight anybody. Carrington has fought in three consecutive 10-round fights as he prepares himself for the championship distance. When asked who he’d like to face, Carrington made it clear he is open to facing whichever titleholder gives him the chance first.

“It is anybody,” Carrington said. “Whoever is the first one to the chopping block. I’m ready to fight any one of them and become the eighth world champion from Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York.”
