In the co-feature bout of the Shakur Stevenson-Robson Conceicao card, Olympic Silver medalist Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis went to work on his opponent Omar Tienda as he collected a fifth round TKO victory on Friday night September 23 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Tienda had an idea that he wasn’t going to outbox Davis as he tried to be the aggressor and turn the boxing match into a brawl. Davis wasn’t overwhelmed by the pressure as he kept his composure, and used his boxing skills to land well placed shots to Tienda’s head and body. At the end of round one, it appeared as though Davis scored a clean knockdown, but the referee called it a slip. During the course of rounds 2-4, Keyshawn Davis routinely walked Omar Tienda into some hard clean shots. The 23-year-old lightweight prospect was able to put his poise and boxing arsenal on display. Once Davis established the proper range, he used his jab, touched the body, and landed some sharp combinations. Davis was in a good rhythm as his right hand landed early and often. In the fifth round Omar Tienda got careless as he threw a lazy jab, and Davis took advantage of Tienda’s negligent offense by going over the top of the jab, and landing a hard right counter shot that knocked Tienda down. Tienda was able to get up, but when the match continued, Davis attacked Tienda in the center of the ring, and hit him with a combination that knocked Tienda back into the ropes. While his opponent was pinned against the ropes, Davis unleashed a flurry of shots that forced the referee to step in and put a halt to the contest.

The Norfolk, Virginia native, put on a very impressive performance as he improved his record to (6-0, 5 KOs), while his opponent Omar Tienda dropped to (25-6, 18 KOs). During his post fight press conference, Davis spoke on overcoming health issues that kept him out of the squared circle.

“Honestly, it felt like a dream come true. I couldn’t believe I got a chance to perform on this magnitude again. Being that I was out with health issues, I didn’t know what to expect out of myself, but I always said ever since I went pro, God got me, and he definitely had me tonight.”

When asked about his finishing sequence, Davis gave credit to two people. “Being around Terence Crawford and learning off of Terence Crawford everyday in the gym, sparring him day in and day out, but tonight I give the credit to Bomac. Bomac said let that man come to you. Set him up and hit him with a shot, and that’s exactly what I did. I let him walk right into that right hand, the next thing you know, he’s on the ground.”

Keyshawn Davis is an elite lightweight prospect, but he plans on immediately changing his status. His goal going into 2023 is to fight quality opponents who will help him crack the top ten rankings, an elevate his status from prospect to contender.
