Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz just turned 33-years-old and has three or four years left in the professional ring, with four rivals he wants to face before retirement and a dream goodbye fight at Azteca Stadium in Mexico.
Andres Ruiz, father of the Destroyer, has talked with his son about future plans and has already touched on retirement.
But first he has important fights to make and already knows the rivals he wants: Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. "Andy has good fights left," said his father in an interview with Izquierdazo.
"Fury, the trilogy with Joshua, Usyk, Wilder and retiring with those fights, that's what we want to do. And after those events, Mexico would be the target for a goodbye fight and then end his sports career. I've told him that they are the fights that he has to do, nothing more and that's it. And make a last one in Mexico."
Asked if he has already spoken with Andy and the boxer agrees with the future career plans.
"He agrees with me, with the decision that I've discussed with him," said Andrés Ruiz, also the boxer's manager.
After not being able to perform in Mexico last June, due to a contract with PBC to face Luis Ortiz, Don Andrés' dream is for Andy is to retire in Mexico. "We want to fight in Mexico," the elder Ruiz said. "Make one (big fight) in the Plaza de Toros bullring or in the Azteca Stadium to retire… (If I had to choose) I want to do it in the Azteca."
Ruiz was in action last month, when he scored two knockdowns to picked up a twelve round unanimous decision over Luis Ortiz in a WBC semi-eliminator. The victory puts him in line to fight the winner of this coming Saturday's fight between Wilder and Robert Helenius - which is also a WBC semi-eliminator.
