It is always interesting to see, regardless of the industry, how an idea goes from concept to creation. So, today I am giving our readers a peek into my sketchbook to see how an idea is formulated, executed and developed. Pictured in this article is a drawing from my sketchbook, Shidonna Raven, and a peek into our process.

Most often when we are creating a collection or garment we begin with inspiration. When the ideas flow like a rainstorm, we often just sketch out our ideas and may start with inspiration by working backward to explore what the connecting pieces are for each garment. Or we ask, what was the over all inspiration for these?

The creative process is a disciplined one coupled with technical skill and mastery. Every piece you see most likely started with a simple sketch like this. Most experienced artists will tell you that Art is about solving problems. Who knew Art could be so controversial. Okay, we know. History is full of controversial pieces of Art, clothing included. So, what does that mean to you as the consumer?

What it means is that we think critically about how you will wear your garments and how they can be made so that they become pieces that you have in your wardrobe for some time. Shop our lasting collections today.

Fashionably yours, Shidonna Raven
