Hi fashionista and those who just love looking amazing. At Shidonna Raven we want you not only to love what you buy but also keep what you love for a long time. We are all about longevity here. With longevity comes good care. Of course, a good dry cleaner is a good idea to have to keep your clothes looking amazing and to partner with you to help care for your clothes so that you can keep them for years to come. Any dry cleaner worth their weight will know how to properly care for your garments or to recommend you to the type of professional who can.
Nonetheless, there are some things that you can do also to care for your beloved garments. Today we want to share a care tip with you regarding gum on your garments. There are a few ways to remove gum from your garment. Today we will share with you the 3 ones we think are the most effective:
1 – Ice Cube
Rub an ice cube over the gum. This will harden the gum. Once you have the gum nice and hard, use a dull knife to scrape the gum off. Treat the gum, make sure the remover is appropriate to use on your garment, with a stain remover and launder or dry clean. If the garment is not okay to use with your remover and you are going to dry clean it any way, you have mitigated the damage and the dry cleaner should be able to take it from there.
2 – Hair Spray
Apply the hair spray to the gum. The gum will harden. Once the gum has hardened remove the gum with a dull knife. As with all fabrics you want to check to make sure it is okay to use on your garment. If you are unsure, the ice cube method is probably a better choice. Checking with your dry cleaner is also a good idea before executing.
3 – Cardboard and Warm Iron
Place gum side of garment face down on card board. Run a warm iron over the back of the garment where the gum is. The gum will transfer from the fabric to the card board. You can then lift up the garment and treat with a stain remover for any remaining residue and launder as you normally would. The care tag on our clothing will let you know if it is okay to use an iron or not on your fabric. Of course, make sure the stain remover that you are using is okay for your fabric. If you are unsure and typically dry clean this garment anyway, do not apply the stain remover. Your dry cleaner should be able to care of it from there.
