The holiday season is a wonderful and festive time of the year. It is also the time of the year that many people decorate their office and homes, even if temporarily. The holiday season is also a great time to invest in fine art in preparation for the tax season. Search our articles to get tips on fine art collecting (interior decorating/design and home decor) to learn more about how you can save on your taxes. Its also a great idea to consult your tax representative during this season to make any final purchase such as artwork to properly wrap up your end of year budget and finances in preparation for the tax season. Regardless if you will be collecting for the office, commercial or home, these tips will be ideal for art work in any of these locations. Today we will be focusing our tips on ceramics:

Tips

  • Consider your tax deductions, benefits and/or write offs when making your purchases

  • Budget for artwork purchases and collecting

  • Collect as an investment* remember these items can be sold as assets in an economic crunch/pandemic if you must

  • Buy something you like

  • Consult a tax professional for tips and guidelines for deductions

  • Consider becoming a Benefactor

  • Consider Donating / Philanthropy

When it comes specifically to Ceramics:

  • Always, always, always have a secure, smooth (when possible) and level surface

  • Consider areas that get moist, particularly for glazed ceramics. Porous ceramic maybe become soft and compromised over time. These areas are areas such as kitchens and bathrooms where 2-D art work, such as a canvas that may not be sealed from the back or a drawing on paper that may not do well in an environment that stays moist. Ceramics, especially glazed ceramics are ideal in these areas because they can withstand the moisture.

  • Place items far back and securely on their surfaces.

  • Consider your surface and place a barrier in between the ceramics and surface to protect the surface and/or ceramic if you must or if you like.

  • When decorating for the holidays its always a good idea to add your own personal touch even if you are not Picasso.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Shidonna Raven Fine Art & Giclees
