One of our neighbors heard about the garden and has been coming to check on its progress. He use to farm, so we were excited to have him come by and help. He also shared a couple of tips with us regarding farming and gardening:
When putting a transplant in the ground, loosen the ground beneath it to encourage root growth.
When forming rows, shape them in the form of pyramids. This should encourage them to take root quicker and drain properly.
Remove grass, even between the rows. This will keep other plants from taking resources from the plants you are growing
Not only did he come by and give us a few helpful pointers, he also helped us implement these pointers. The garden now looks a little different as you can see from above. We went from having 6 rows to now having 9 rows. He formed new rows where the grass was in between the rows. there is just enough space and plenty of plants to fill them. It is truly a joy to have garden visitors and contributors come by and check on the garden and help out. There always seems to be something to do in the garden. Some of the seeds we sowed directly into the ground have begun to sprout. We think Dill is the first one. Stay tuned for updates on what is sprouting.
